A study led by Frank Möckel and his team looked at how water-filtered infrared-A (wIRA) light could help with fat loss and weight reduction when combined with exercise. The researchers worked with 40 overweight women, dividing them into two groups. Both groups did 45-minute cycling workouts three times a week for four weeks, but one group also received wIRA treatment during their workouts, while the other did not. The group that used wIRA showed significantly more improvement in reducing fat, especially around the waist, hips, and thighs, and also lost more weight. On average, they lost about 1.9 kg, while the other group saw no weight loss.
The study found that wIRA works by warming up the skin and tissues, which increases blood flow and helps the body burn fat more efficiently, especially in areas like the thighs where fat tends to be harder to burn. The heat from the infrared light helps activate fat breakdown during exercise, making it easier to lose fat and improve overall body composition. This research suggests that using infrared light therapy alongside exercise can be a helpful way to lose weight and reduce body fat, especially when combined with a healthy diet. The study was conducted by Frank Möckel, Gerd Hoffmann, Roy Obermüller, Wolfgang Drobnik, and Gerd Schmitz.
