The Power of True Wave® Far Infrared Heaters

As a leader and innovator in the infrared sauna industry for over 25 years, we are focused on engineering every sauna with the highest quality to enhance the abundant benefits of infrared heat. Explore the science and details and see why our True Wave® far infrared heaters make a true difference in your sauna experience.

What is a True Wave® Far Infrared Heater?

With every sauna we build, we maintain the highest standard from our engineering process, attention to detail and commitment to producing the highest quality infrared heat for the most beneficial sauna experience. Our proprietary True Wave® Far Infrared Heaters are built with a unique Carbon/Ceramic combination that amplifies advantages of both materials. All of our heaters are made in-house, with carbon and ceramic layers carefully crafted and alternated with a woven substrate to create a powerful healing infrared heat. This innovative method results in a high-output heater with patented high thermal emissivity. Each heater undergoes rigorous testing for several hours, including measuring electrical draw, surface temperature, and EMF output in twelve different spots to guarantee top quality. The heaters in our Clearlight® Infrared Sauna models use carbon to generate long wave far infrared heat, which can penetrate deeper into the body and be absorbed more easily. Additionally, the ceramic components in our heaters provide a high infrared output, allowing us to focus the heat directly on the body. All of our saunas feature True Wave® Far Infrared Heaters for maximum effectiveness.

We are committed to creating saunas that utilize the healthiest heat sources. Our carbon/ceramic heaters are the first of their kind, with almost no EMF emissions. Through our unique patent-pending technology, we have minimized electromagnetic field exposure to nearly zero. Our True Wave® heaters have been rigorously tested with a laboratory-grade EMF meter, showing an average output of only 2.5 milligauss (mg) – a stark contrast to the 100mg emitted by competitors’ carbon heaters. Furthermore, tests have shown that there is almost no EMF present in the area where individuals sit in our saunas. By crafting quality saunas, we are creating better sauna sanctuaries for you on your health journey.

Why are True Wave™ Far Infrared Heaters better for me?

The gentle heat produced by our True Wave® Far Infrared Heaters allows for a more relaxing sauna while helping your body release toxins. With a lower surface temperature, you can stay in the sauna for a longer period of time, maximizing the detoxification process. According to Drs. Michael A. Schmidt et al. in their book Beyond Antibiotics, some doctors are using saunas to help release toxins from their patients’ bodies. They have found that a sauna at a lower temperature (105-125 F) for a longer period is the most beneficial. These lower temperatures stimulate a fat sweat, which helps eliminate toxins stored in fat, unlike high temperature saunas that promote a water sweat. What’s better, is that our True Wave® heaters can also reach optimal temperature very quickly so your sauna is ready for you to enjoy in 10 – 15 minutes.

What is Full Spectrum Infrared?

All Clearlight Sanctuary Sauna™ models include our True Wave®  Full Spectrum infrared heaters.  These heaters are high output infrared heaters producing near, mid and far infrared. Every Clearlight Sanctuary Sauna™ model has 1,000 watts of full spectrum infrared. That’s 25 times the power of our closest competitor.

The infrared spectrum is comprised of near, mid and far infrared.  While the majority of the benefits you receive in your Clearlight® sauna come from the far infrared band, there are added benefits and enhancements by adding in all three wavelengths. Our Clearlight True Wave™ Full Spectrum heaters emit about 1/3 near infrared, 1/3 mid infrared and 1/3 far infrared. A few benefits you can expect from full spectrum infrared therapy are:

  • Near Infrared is the shortest wavelength but penetrates the deepest. It is not captured by water, which allows it to penetrate the deepest to increase your core thermal energy.  It also does not cause the “resonant frequency” associated with far infrared so using near infrared alone is not the best way to detoxify. Near infrared is associated with photobiomodulation which may produce energy within the cells through ATP stimulation.
  • Mid Infrared wavelengths are also captured by water molecules while temporarily increasing circulation through vasodilation, promoting temporary increase in blood flow and temporarily elevating heart rate and overall metabolism.
  • Far Infrared is the closest of the wavelengths to the infrared heat given off by our own body. Far infrared is readily captured by the water molecules in the body and releasing its energy. Our bodies actually give off far infrared wavelengths at about 9.4 microns. Since far infrared wavelengths feel very natural and normal to us, our energy is temporarily enhanced and strengthened.

If a good portion of the far infrared from a high quality sauna heater at this 9.4 micron range, a subtle “resonant frequency” or vibration is set up that increases the expulsion of toxins. The toxins are then eliminated either through the three main organs of elimination (urine, feces and exhalation) or directly through the skin, the largest organ of the body. Far infrared may temporarily activate sweat glands eliminating these chemicals directly through the skin.  Expelling toxins through the skin is advantageous because it relieves the liver of having to process quantities of these fat soluble compounds. By sweating in an infrared sauna can help your body naturally detox from unwanted chemicals, and improve your overall health and well-being.

Why are heat wavelengths important?

Infrared Penetration

Our saunas are specifically designed with larger True Wave® Far Infrared heaters to cover more of your body from all directions, emitting an optimal wavelength range of 6 to 12 microns, with a significant portion at 9.4 microns. At 9.4 microns, our bodies can absorb the greatest amount of infrared heat, resulting in maximum benefits during each sauna session. The high far infrared output of our heaters ensures that you receive quality heat and precise levels of heat concentration, allowing your body to fully benefit from the experience.

Far Infrared waves play a role in your recovery

Your body both emits and absorbs far infrared waves. The spectrum of far infrared waves produced by the human body falls between 6 to 20 microns. The ideal micron output range for an infrared heater is 6 to 12 microns, which aligns closely with the resonant frequency of a water molecule and the optimal infrared absorption rate of the human body. This correlation is logical considering our bodies are composed of nearly 70% water. This spectrum, often referred to as the “Vital Rays”, may offer many health advantages. When far infrared waves interact with water molecules, these molecules start to oscillate. This oscillation weakens the ion bonds, and the subsequent disintegration of the water molecules leads to the release of trapped gasses and other harmful substances.

Clearlight True Wave®’s proprietary heater is designed for a better performance within the crucial 6 to 12 micron wave range, with a significant amount of wavelengths resonating at the frequency of a water molecule’s vibration. This optimal micron output also enhances heat production from far infrared, which, when incorporated into a healthy lifestyle, has the potential to enhance pain alleviation, detoxification, circulation, and overall peripheral blood flow.

Heat better with ceramic & carbon

Every heater we build is doctor-designed and relies on studies to guide every decision we make. When evaluating a material for its properties to give off far infrared heat, we evaluate its “emissivity.” Emissivity is the measure of an object’s ability to emit far infrared energy. Emissivity can have a value from 0 (shiny mirror) to 1.0 (blackbody). Most infrared heaters used in our competitors’ saunas were designed for industrial use. Clearlight Infrared True Wave®  heaters were designed by us, specifically for use in our saunas and they were designed to heat the human body.

* When reading the table, please note the values in 5-14 micron ranges – the “vital” range for healing the human body (the symbol μm stands for “micron”). You will see ceramic has an emissivity of .95 – the closest to a perfect black body at 1.0. That is why the patented ceramic compound that we add to our True Wave® heaters is so important.

What should I be looking for when choosing the Right Far Infrared Heater?

We understand the difficulty in choosing which heaters and infrared saunas are best for your lifestyle. We created a list of useful questions to consider when comparing your sauna heater purchases. As always, please feel free to reach out to our team with further questions.

1) What is the surface temperature of the heater?

  • One of the most important questions as it determines the size of the infrared wavelength and the overall effectiveness of the heater. The two scientific principles that govern infrared emissions are called Planck’s Law and Wien’s Law. Both of these scientific laws have an equation with several constants and the only variable is the surface temperature of the heater. In short, the lower the surface temperature of the heater, the longer the infrared wave will be and the more effective the infrared heat will be for you.

2) Does the sauna have front and back heaters?

  • A key difference between sweating and effective detoxification in an infrared sauna is increasing the thermal energy in your body. The goal is to find a sauna that heats both the back and front of your body, so you can reap as many benefits without increasing the thermal energy in your body. Many saunas on the market today leave the front heaters out or have very small front heaters for aesthetic reasons. Our Clearlight True Wave™ heaters are positioned so that they cover your full back area whilst the front heaters are positioned directly at your front core. By positioning heaters correctly, your sauna is able to warm your body core and increase thermal energy.

3) Is the Far Infrared Heat directed where it’s most needed?

  • Traditional carbon heaters, while they produce high quality infrared heat, they lack enough concentration of that heat on your body. These particular heaters work well within a few inches of your body but not in a large sauna cabin. The heaters are also often times positioned over your head and are predominantly heating the sauna cabin air.  Due to the fact that infrared heat travels in a straight line, your sauna heater should direct heat toward your body core, not just into the air around you.

4) What is the quality difference between Radiant Heat vs. Reflected Heat?

  • Maybe you have seen many heaters on the market that have a thin, single rod with a metal reflector behind it. Generally, these heaters produce low quality far infrared heat when compared to a large flat panel far infrared heater. First, a single rod heater must run at a much higher surface temperature than a large flat radiant heater to produce sufficient infrared heat. The higher the surface temperature the less effective the far infrared heat will be.

Our heaters are built with the structure, the design, and every detail in mind, so you can focus more on absorbing quality heat.
