Thermal therapy in dialysis patients – a randomized trial.

This study, conducted by Chia-Hsien Lin and colleagues, investigates how far-infrared (FIR) therapy can benefit patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) for end-stage renal disease. Hemodialysis patients often experience debilitating symptoms, such as fatigue, sadness, and general malaise, due to kidney failure. The study involved 61 HD patients and compared two groups: one group received FIR treatment three times a week for two months, while the other group did not receive any treatment. The research aimed to measure various outcomes, including meridian energy levels, hemoglobin, albumin, and kidney function markers. The results showed that patients receiving FIR treatment experienced a significant improvement in their meridian energy levels, especially in areas related to kidney function, and had a higher increase in certain health markers, such as hemoglobin levels, compared to the control group.

The findings suggest that FIR therapy may help regulate the energy (Qi) in key meridians linked to kidney health, potentially offering a complementary treatment for patients on dialysis. By improving meridian function and boosting key health indicators, FIR therapy could help alleviate some of the symptoms associated with kidney failure and dialysis, such as fatigue and low energy. This study provides evidence that FIR therapy could be an effective, non-invasive treatment for HD patients, offering a potential alternative or complementary approach to managing the challenges of kidney disease.
